Agnès Dugain is a famous film director who, following a difficult divorce, has moved back to Paris with her teenage daughter. There, she has hit a complete standstill and withdrawn from the world.
One day, she receives a surprising call from the police, who deliver the sad news that her tata—her dear Aunt Colette—has passed away. This information shakes Agnès. Colette actually died three years earlier and is buried in the cemetery in Gueugnon, a small town in Burgundy. As the next of kin, it is Agnès who must identify the deceased, and at the viewing, there is no doubt that it is indeed her aunt. But then who is the person lying in the grave? And why did Colette pretend to be dead?
In the small house where Colette lived in hiding for the last years of her life, she left behind a suitcase full of cassette tapes, which Agnès begins to listen to in order to uncover the story of her and their family. On the surface, Colette always seemed like a woman who went through life without leaving much of a trace, but in her search for answers, Agnès realizes that everyone has a story—and Colette, if anyone, has a great deal to tell.
