The Summer Book is the story of Sophia, a curious and inquisitive six-year-old girl, and her grandmother. They spend the summer on a small island in the Finnish archipelago. Together they roam the island, swim in deep, forbidden waters, build ships out of bark and leaves, study insects and flowers, draw and write – but above all, they each follow their own whims and fancies and talk about life and the great and small mysteries and wonders of nature.
Author Tove Jansson (1914-2001) is best known as the creator of the Moomins. The Summer Book is her most beloved book for adults.
