Sommerbogen is the story of Sophia, a curious and inquisitive six-year-old girl, and her grandmother. They spend the summer on a small island in the Finnish archipelago. Together they roam the island, swim in deep, forbidden water, build boats from bark and leaves, study insects and flowers, draw and write - but above all, each follows their own whims and impulses and talks about life and the great and small mysteries and wonders of nature.
The author Tove Jansson (1914-2001) is best known as the creator of the Moomins. Sommerbogen is her most beloved book for adults.
